Pyrohovo

We had a pretty busy weekend. On Saturday we drove just out of town to The Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, more commonly known as Pyrohovo. Its an outdoor area where villages of the six regions of Ukraine are reconstructed from the 19th and early 20th centuries. We were going off directions from a "Life in Kyiv" guidebook which included "at the purple gas station sign there should be a small sign that says museum, make a U-turn here and..." Ya, we passed it once but then found it right away. My kind of directions, none of this turn "North at the street so and so"... the streets aren't very well marked anyway. Usually you have to look really closely at the address on the side of a building to figure what street you are actually on.

It turned out to be a beautiful and hot day. Close to where we parked was a wheat field so we thought we'd check it out
We only hit a small portion of the park of what we did see was pretty neat. Lots of wooden windmills. The inside of the church was beautiful complete with prayer candles and lots of souvenirs to buy.

















































Most people brought picnics with them. We didn't come prepared and ended up buy Ukrainian style hot dogs. They had some sort of mayo dressing with shredded cabbage on top. All in all they weren't too bad.

There was a man dressed in traditional Ukrainian clothes playing really pretty music and another lady further down the path singing. Here's a sample of the man playing his music.
